This performance is being broadcast LIVE from the North Beach Bandshell and explores innovations in music by modern and contemporary composers. Featuring GRAMMY-nominated artist JP Saxe plus the music of Béla Bartók, Erich Korngold, and the symphonic reimaginations of the music by Radiohead, the orchestra will take a journey through the transformation of music from the past 100 years. There will be an opportunity to ask the orchestra questions during a Q&A session at the end! A digital program and concert quiz will be emailed prior to the concert. FUNDarte presents the Miami premiere of Sharing Grandmothers featuring Inez Barlatier (Miami) and LORNOAR (Cameroon), on Saturday, January 29th at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 30th at 3:00 p.m. at Miami-Dade County Auditorium (2901 W Flagler St, Miami, FL 33135). Sharing Grandmothers is an original multidisciplinary song cycle exploring the profound contributions of Black women to humanity. Sharing Grandmothers focuses on women’s oral traditions, lullabies, and folk tales, as well as the combined musical traditions of Africa and the Caribbean, replete with percussive rhythms, rituals, and vocal expressions. The project brings together two multidisciplinary musicians who each embrace a rich cultural heritage and mastery of traditional songs, stories, rhythms, and dances from their respective cultures. The two principal artists are Inez Barlatier, a Miami-based Haitian-American singer/songwriter, percussionist and, dancer, and LORNOAR, a Cameroonian artist whose work also encompasses traditional and original songs, music, and dance. Under the direction of Miami-based director Carlos Caballero, a Latino/Caribbean artist, the work will celebrate the legacy of shared ancestry and traditions between Cameroon and Haiti, celebrating the influence of Africa on the Caribbean and its diaspora, and the empowerment of the 21st Century Black Woman. Sharing Grandmothers is a transatlantic collaboration between two contemporary artists who have jointly created new music and lyrics that provide a modern-day commentary on issues that women face globally, speaks to the double oppression of Black women both in the U.S. and Africa. FUNDarte is a multidisciplinary non-profit organization dedicated to producing, presenting, and promoting music, theater, dance, film, and visual arts that speak to Miami’s diverse cultures with an emphasis on Hispanic/Latino arts and culture. Chopin For All - Free Concert Series continues with Parker Van Ostrand on January 16th at 3:00PM Parker Van Ostrand began studying piano at the age of four. He performed at Carnegie Hall at age five after winning first place in the AADGT competition. Since then he has returned to Carnegie Hall twice and has performed in numerous recitals throughout the United States, Singapore, and Japan. He’s already established a career touring the world as a solo concert pianist. And last year, prior to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, Parker traveled to Florida to become the youngest competitor in the National Chopin Competition. He surprised everyone by not just winning first prize in the Best Sonata category but also taking third in the overall competition. Synopsis: “Stella! Stella!”… The first thing that comes to mind when you hear the title A Streetcar Named Desire. However, rest assured that André Previn’s operatic adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ famous play will leave with you with so much more. The opera follows the downward spiral of former southern belle Blanche Dubois, who after having experienced a series of personal losses, leaves behind her wealth and privilege and moves into a run-down apartment with her sister and brother-in-law. Filled with soaring melodies and an orchestral score that puts you right in the middle of New Orleans during a hot summer, A Streetcar Named Desire is a contemporary verismo masterpiece.

The Last Hundred Ensemble welcomes guitarist Geralado Neto to Miami. About this event Born in 1995, Geraldo Costa Neto is a Brazilian guitarist based in Lexington, Kentucky. He holds an undergraduate degree from the Universidade Federal de São João del Rei, where he studied with Dr. Guilherme Vincens, as also, a master’s degree from the University of Kentucky, under the tutelage of Dr. Dieter Hennings. Geraldo has received several awards during his career, he was a finalist at the “II Festival de Violão de Teresina”, prize winner of the multi-instrumental competitions “Segunda Musical” and “Jovem Músico BDMG” in the year of 2017, as also placed 2nd in the solo guitar competitions “XII Concurso de Violão FITO”, “XXI Concurso Nacional de Violão Musicalis”, “XXVIII Concurso de Violão Souza Lima”. An advocate of chamber music, Geraldo is a member of the UK Guitar Trio, a group which is complemented by Felipe Magdaleno and Dieter Hennings. The trio made its debut at the “V Festival de Violão de Passo Fundo”, in Brazil. Geraldo has been working under the supervision of Dr. Hennings as a teaching assistant since the beginning of his graduate studies at UKY, where he is currently a DMA candidate. He is a strong supporter of new music written for guitar as well as an enthusiast of Latin American music, which plays an inherent part of his identity as an artist. Composed in 1874 and orchestrated by Maurice Ravel in 1922, Pictures at an Exhibition was inspired by a posthumous show of more than 400 paintings and drawings by Modest Mussorgsky’s close friend, architect and artist Viktor Hartmann, who died in 1873.
