The La Perle De Miami: Little Haiti virtual tour series highlight key elements of the neighborhood through history, culture, and architecture. Join us on for the first release of a four part documentary. Little Haiti is a historical neighborhood in Miami. The first home for many Haitian generations who migrated to the United States. This project was made possible with the support of the Green Family Foundation.

ASFI Future in Films Festival is a public evening event in Miami, FL celebrating the cinematic works of South Florida student filmmakers (between the ages of 13-18). Selections are open to any filmmaker regardless of previous ASFI affiliation. The event will consist of a short film screening, a live audience Q&A, and a closing event, all made accessible to the general public.

Steven Spielberg, Richard Donner (Superman) and Chris Columbus (Harry Potter) collaborate to create an epic children's adventure of subterranean caverns, sunken galleons and a fortune in lost pirate treasure waiting to be found by a group of friends known as the Goonies. With brothers Mikey (Sean Astin) and Brand's (Josh Brolin) house slated for demolition by greedy land developers, the boys decide their only hope lies in finding a long-lost treasure. They uncover a treasure map and with their friends descend to a subterranean sea and an abandoned galleon in this fun-filled, fast-paced adventure.

Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) is the king of high school slacking and cutting class and today is no different. This time, he enlists best friend Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck) and girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) in playing hooky and taking the Windy City by storm. Written and directed by John Hughes as a love letter to Chicago (“I really wanted to capture as much of Chicago as I could. Not just in the architecture and landscape, but the spirit,” he said), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of the great teen comedies, a genre that plays on the woes, concerns, and ennui of a generation. Replete with quotable lines, a kick-ass soundtrack, and (mostly) likeable characters, it’s no wonder the film became an instant critical and commercial success, prompting even Barbara Bush to quote the film at a commencement ceremony: “Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

But that didn’t prevent Life of Brian from becoming one of the Python’s signature films and a contender for one of the greatest comedies of all time. Richard Kelly’s directorial debut is a daring, original vision, packed with jarring ideas and intelligence. Its mind-bending time travel plot is layered with themes of existentialism and spirituality, staples of Kelly’s work. The baby-faced Gyllenhaal broke through in his role as a troubled and mentally deranged individual, which has become a staple of his acting repertoire as seen in films such as Enemy and Nightcrawler. The Deering Estate is proud to host an Evening with Marlon Johnson. Join us on Saturday, April 3rd at 6:30 p.m. for an outdoor film screening of River City Drumbeat, directed by Marlon Johnson and Anne Flatté, accompanied by a conversation between Johnson and Cathleen Dean. Guests will be able to enjoy the enriching dialogue that emerges between these two creatives. Later, the panel will open to allow for direct engagement with Johnson and Dean, as guests will be invited to ask their own questions. The program will take place in the courtyard of the Deering Estate. Guests may bring a packed picnic to enjoy during the screening. Tickets: $20. Limited tickets are available and must be purchased online in advance. Please note that the museums are closed during this event. No tickets sales at the gate. Tickets are non-refundable, rain or shine. Guests must practice social distancing, wear face coverings (ages 2 and up), and are not allowed to gather in groups larger than 10 people. Sanitation stations are available throughout the event. You may remove your face covering while actively eating or drinking, but you must remain stationary and maintain physical distancing.
