The Koubek Center at Miami Dade College and Centro Cultural Español present ELLAS SON CINE, a film festival of the Fundación Mujeres Por África, based in Madrid, Spain. March is International Women's History Month, which commemorates women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. Joining the celebration, the Koubek Center in collaboration with the Centro Cultural Español de Miami (Spanish Cultural Center of Miami), will offer an award-winning selection of ELLAS SON CINE (They Are Cinema) a program of the Fundación Mujeres Por África (Women For Africa Foundation) based in Madrid, Spain. ELLAS SON CINE is the main program of the Foundation's audiovisual project. Its principal objective is to promote knowledge and enjoyment of cinema directed by African women. So far, ELLAS SON CINE has screened 42 feature films and seven short films from 18 countries. This presentation at the Koubek Center is the first time the program has been offered in the United States. All feature films will be subtitled in English and Spanish.

THE BROTHERS NUNEZ FILM SCREENING: Miami History on the Silver Screen at the Sandrell Rivers Theater. March 18th at 7:30 PM, Sandrell Rivers Theater is hosting the screening of two films featuring Miami Pioneer Ralph Munroe, and the sadly mostly forgotten ‘Era of the Bay’, the time before Flagler and the railroad. ‘Perchance to Dream’ is a narrative short film focusing on a tragic time in Ralph Munroe’s life and will be followed by ‘Searching for Ralph Munroe’, a full-length documentary profiling actor, Christopher Diaz, who played Munroe, falling down a rabbit hole as he delves deeper into this influential Miami pioneer’s story! Deering Estate in partnership with the MIAMI short FILM FESTIVAL (MIAMIsFF) presents Shorts Under the Stars: Best of the Fest 2021 on Sunday, February 27th. Enjoy the stunning views and sunset, then grab a spot outdoors on the lawn to watch a selection of winning short films from the 20th MIAMIsFF. Early access begins at 5:30 p.m. and the screening begins at 7 p.m. Guests can bring blankets, lawn chairs, and small picnic baskets. The following items are not permitted: large coolers, open flames/candles, balloons and pop-up tents/umbrellas. We encourage all our residents to take the steps that we know work to prevent the spread of COVID-19: wear masks around large crowds and people you don’t know to be vaccinated. Today, as his former dancers teach a new generation, questions arise: what was the secret of his teaching? Can it be replicated? Filled with never before seen archival footage of Balanchine at work during rehearsals, classes, and in preparation for his most seminal works, along with interviews with many of his adored and adoring dancers and those who try to carry on his legacy today, this is Balanchine as you have never seen him, and a film for anyone who loves ballet and the creative process.

JONES AND D-MAN IN THE WATERS (2020) Tom Hurwitz, Rosalynde LeBlanc Through an extraordinary series of interviews, archival material, and uniquely powerful cinematography of movement, this 90-minute, lyrical documentary uses the story of this dance to illustrate the triumph of the human spirit in art and within the community.

Don't fall in love until you see this film! Miami Arts, Culture & Heritage month is HERE!! We’re excited to join Art of Black Miami in the premiere of I Love You In My Silence – A Zeek Mathias Film. We invite you to this in-person event at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex. In the film, Zeek explores the oddities of love by questioning one’s willingness to sacrifice self. What if to meet the person that you are madly in love with, you must go through a portal and that portal is death? The odd thing is that there is no guarantee that once you go through the portal the person will be there. This is a hybrid of a silent film, which incorporates poetry. Starring in the film are Bennchoumy Elien, Charli Culture, Rebecca Olivier, Dudley Philistin, and Jean Jean-Gilles. You will see the artistic wardrobe design of Dorinne Jean-Gilles and Claire Jean Gilles. Willandra McGahee will host this phenomenal premiere. Actors and Director Q & A will be moderated by artist and filmmaker, Faith Kohler We will abide by social distancing guidelines.
