Shaping South Florida: Immigration Stories Presented by HistoryMiami

A People’s History of South Florida Program Series sponsored by the Marcia J. Kanner Memorial Fund

Miami, the only major U.S. city founded by a woman, is a young city, incorporated in 1896 in what was then mostly wilderness. Through Miami’s turbulent and tenacious past, it has grown to be one of the many unique cities in the United States. Miami continues to be a place where a variety of newcomers try to build a different life. But how did Miami become what it is today?

Join us for a new program series about Miami’s history, from early settlers to its current evolution into a global city. Discussion points will include immigration, civil rights, gentrification, and other topics that help tell the story of the Magic City.

Presented with the support of the Marcia J. Kanner Memorial Fund.
